Dialysis will be done free of cost to the people
Members of District 324 B5 of Lions Clubs International and O.
Arumugasamy, Managing Director, Senthil Group of Companies, have donated
a dialysis unit each to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
Cost
The machines, each costing Rs. 6.50 lakh, belong to the latest generation of machines that require very less human intervention – 4008 S Haemodialysis machines. And the machines are equipped with monitors.
They do not require the presence of paramedical staff, as is necessary in certain machines.
A release says that the Lions organisation and Mr. Arumugasamy decided
to donate the dialysis units as not many people could afford dialysis.
Every sitting cost around Rs. 1,500 and the monthly expenditure varied
between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 15,000 depending upon the number of sittings.
Advanced stage
Ninety per cent of those affected with problems in the kidneys called on
a doctor only when the problem was at an advanced stage.
Of those 20 per cent went in for kidney transplant, 30 per cent somehow
managed a treatment and another 30 per cent lose their lives without
being able to afford treatment.
The dialysis will be done free of cost so that people could not afford it do not suffer for want of treatment.
The release adds that the Lions organisation is exploring the possibility of purchasing another machine.
